Some sessions are about perfectly posed portraits.

Others are about letting kids be kids.

This beautiful evening at Cool Creek Park was exactly that.

When Erin and James arrived with their two daughters, Lucy (7) and KJ (5), I could tell almost immediately that this session was going to be full of laughter. The girls already loved having their pictures taken, which made it so easy for them to simply enjoy the experience together instead of worrying about smiling at the camera.

We started with classic family portraits while everyone was still dry. The girls held hands, giggled together, and shared the sweetest nose-to-nose moment that perfectly captured their sister bond. Those quiet little interactions are always my favorite because they’re completely genuine.

As the evening went on, we made our way into the creek…

And that’s when the real magic happened.

The girls splashed through the water hand in hand, raced through the creek, and laughed so hard they could barely stand still. Mom and Dad didn’t stay dry for long either. Before they knew it, they were standing in the water with their girls, soaking up every second of summer together.

Those playful moments are what childhood is made of.

One of my favorite things about creek sessions is that there are no expectations to stay clean or perfectly posed. Kids get permission to explore, splash, and simply be themselves. Parents get to step into their world for a little while instead of worrying about keeping everyone picture-perfect.

The result?

Images that don’t just show what your family looked like…

They remind you what it felt like.

Looking through this gallery, I know these girls won’t remember every outfit they wore or every posed portrait they took. But they’ll remember laughing with their parents, holding their sister’s hand while splashing through the creek, and ending the night completely soaked with huge smiles on their faces.

And years from now, those memories will matter even more than the photographs themselves.
